| Child Care Advice I am often asked for child care advice from parents and other care givers. Here are some of the questions along with my advice. *********** Dear Ms. Danielle, Question: My son won't sleep all night. He wakes up around two every morning. He's four months old. He goes to sleep around ten pm but wakes up without fail every night. I'm exhausted. What should I do? Answer to come... Question: My nephew is 7 - he's extremely spoiled. What should I do when he acts up. His mother (my sister in law) is very sensitive. Answer: You should to be sensitive when talking to any mother about their child. When you approach your sister in law about the behavior that you feel is making your nephew spoiled be specific. Calling a child spoiled s very broad and I would need to know the behavior in order to give you a more precise answer. She will also need to know what "specifically" the child is doing that makes him spoiled. Remember, we all spoil our children in some way. My advice is to put it in terms of "bad manners" and "good manners" in that children need to learn to behave in socially acceptable ways. No one wants to be around a child that has bad manners. You could discuss manners with your sister in law and try to base your advice on the golden rules: Respect your elders Keep your hands to yourself Use inside voices when inside Do not touch things that do not belong to you etc. These are some of mine but every household should have golden rules and they should be followed. Teaching good manner and rules have to begin at home and teaching good manners includes the homes of extended family members and friends. I hope that I have helped you please let me know. |
